Why am I doing this?
Because… it's a once in a lifetime experience and opportunity.
Because…. Physically and mentally the trip will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
Because… I’ve always surrounded myself with my friends and am very much used to being part of a team or group however, this expedition will involve walking for 10 hours a day across the ice with only my own thoughts for company and the solitude will be a big test as to how I cope with just myself as company!
Because… Having done a Biochemistry degree at University and now being a part of the patent profession where i work for a pharmaceutical company the idea of being able to help with crucial scientific research which will better help us to understand the affect of climate change in such a remote part of the world is also something I feel very strongly about and my love of Polar bears makes this a particularly personal goal for me.
Because… it’s a rare chance to pass through part of the world that no-one has ever visited before.
Because… despite my nerves – will I cope?, will I be fit enough?, will I raise the money?, will I be too cold?, I am so filled with excitement about the adventure ahead.
Because… I have no doubt that it will be the single most incredible trip of my life and will affect my life more than I can imagine. It will be exciting, fun, dangerous, difficult, beautiful but, most of all, unforgettable.
Thanks for listening.
